• Thursday yoga goals! One day I hope this will be me but for today just a little time on the mat is a major achievement!!! ⠀
⠀
Sorry for the lack of posts recently, some exciting times ahead for A&F but such a lot to do, and social media posts have been a casualty (and apologies to all who I haven't yet replied to on social or email)⠀
⠀
I know many of you are also leading ridiculously busy lives, juggling many balls - it got me thinking...I often feel a bit of a failure if I don't keep all the balls up in the air, all of the time....we battle on often at the expense of our health & wellbeing (or is that just me??) such is our desire to do a good job, achieve our goals, care for our family, but you know, sometimes I think we have to let a few balls drop, and actually be ok with it, to take a moment, breath, re-set, re-balance and know that even though we might want to be wonder-woman (or wonder - man) we are enough and its ok to drop a ball (or two!). ⠀

  • Love fireworks and of course a sparkler on an autumn night!! I often think alpine plants look like natural fireworks, with their lovely rosette formations and spiky projections!⠀
⠀
Packed full of anti-oxidants and phyto-actives they also pack a punch, supporting & protecting the skin!⠀

  • "The mountains are calling and I must go" ...one of the most well known quotes of John Muir, and so true.⠀
⠀
I couldn't help but share this wonderful shot of my winter home (and where Albus & Flora was born) from @courchevel_official . Snow fall in the last few days has turned green to white and created the most magical of views...⠀😍❄️😍
⠀
Counting the days till we move the @albusandflora office to France !

  • I was going through some old photos and I found this lovely shot from @alb.atros 😊 I never tire of hearing about our lovely customers adventures and how @albusandflora balms are part of every day life, from walking to work to wonderful weekend walks! Thank you for all your support, it means a lot to a tiny brand & me ❤️✨
⠀
  • Summer maybe long gone in the Alps but the power of alpine plants, growing high in the mountains, remains central here @albusandflora. Alpine rose grows at altitudes of 2000m, can live for more than 100 years, we include it in all our balms and love it!!!😍✨
⠀
Rich in phyto-nutrients, polyphenolics and anti-oxidants it has remarkable ability to protect the skin against UV induced oxidative stress, free radical damage and dehydration, protecting against premature ageing & photo-damage. It reinforces cell membranes, improves microcirculation and reduces inflammation. Alpine rose also has a strong anti-viral action with clinical studies demonstrating its ability to significantly reduce the occurrence of cold sores. WIN-WIN all round!⠀
⠀
Do let us know if you have any questions regarding our botanical ingredients, we will be sharing more over the next few weeks.⠀

  • We love autumn, rustling of leaves on a weekend walk, 🍂🍁🍂 cosy knits🧣, fire on, darker evenings...but the colder, windy weather, alongside central heating can play havoc with our skin and delicate lips. ⠀
⠀
The skin of the lips is only 5 cells thick compared to face skin (approx 15 cell layers), it doesn't have any oil glands, the ability to protect itself from UVA (levels are the same through all seasons), and it has a rather poor /incomplete barrier layer which dehydrates very easily due to increased trans-epidermal water loss. The Autumn transition exacerbates these anatomical challenges and often a cycle of dry lips, leading to sore cracked lips can start and plague us gals & guys throughout winter! ⠀
⠀
Autumn Lip Care: DO's & DON'T's⠀
⠀
Protect, nourish & hydrate the lips daily...just as you care for your skin. ⠀
⠀
1. DON'T lick/chew lips or pick old skin off - this causes damage & greater dryness - DO gently exfoliate lips a few times a week with a damp flannel, avoid harsh sugar scrubs as they can cause micro-damage and inflammation⠀
⠀
2. DO keep your hydration levels up 💦- lips are the first to show you when you are dehydrated. A humidifier in the bedroom can be a great addition for skin health of the lips and face⠀
⠀
3. DO use balms with natural oils 🥑🍓🍇that will absorb deeply into the lips and natural waxes & butters to provide an emollient protective layer to reduce water loss. Avoid petrolatum based products which do create an emollient layer, but offer no nourishment or hydration.⠀
⠀
4. DO protect the lips against UVA through all seasons. UVA levels remain constant and damage delicate collagen and elastin, leading to fine line and wrinkles around and on the lip⠀💋
